Former Golden Knights Goaltender Will Make His First Start Against His Old Team

by admin

Former Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson will make his first start of the season against his old team.

The Golden Knights signed Thompson to a two-year, entry-level contract after he completed his WHL and USports career. Thompson then spent the next few seasons working his way through the ECHL and then the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights. He made his NHL debut with the Golden Knights during the 2020-21 season before he started to break through and become a full-time NHL goalie during the 2021-22 season.

In his Golden Knights career, Thompson finished with a 56-32-11 record, posting a .912SV% and a 2.67GAA. He also had a great postseason with the Golden Knights starting the first four games of the series before surprisingly losing his crease to Adin Hill for the final three games.

Thompson’s success during the 2023-24 campaign led him to believe that he was ready to be the Golden Knights’ number one goaltender, and he wanted the team to choose him or trade him. He stated that GM Kelly McCrimmon made it clear that Hill was the team’s starting goaltender, and he respected the decision and wanted to be moved.

On day two of the NHL draft, the 27-year-old was signing autographs and taking pictures with fans when the trade was announced. The trade to the Capitals meant Thompson would be sharing the crease with Charlie Lindgren, who is coming off of the best season of his career.

The Calgary, Alberta native claims there isn’t any bad blood between him, the Golden Knights or McCrimmon. Thompson was drafted to the Brandon Wheat Kings by McCrimmon. The decision to request a trade was solely based on what was best for his career.
