In the midst of a retool, the St Louis Blues tendered offer sheets to Edmonton Oilers defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway.
They were both offered two-year contracts, with Broberg earning $4.58 million per year and Holloway earning $2.29 million per year.
An offer sheet is when a player is currently a restricted free agent (RFA) and not currently signed with the team that owns the player’s rights. A team who’s interested would offer sheet that player which compensates the original team with draft picks if they decide they do not want to match the team’s offer.

The Oilers had seven days to decide whether to match the Blues’ offer but chose not to on either player.
The New York Islanders have not been involved in any type of offer sheet recently. In fact, the last time it was even considered was when Mike Milbury was general manager, and John Spano was the “owner.”
In 1997, Spano pushed for Milbury to offer sheet Colorado Avalanche superstars Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg when they were both RFAs.

The plan was to hopefully force the Avalanche’s hand to either make a trade to clear up cap space to re-sign the two or take the draft picks from the Islanders.
