Oshawa, Ont., – The Oshawa Generals are excited to announce that 2023 Import Draft selection Rasmus Kumpulainen has committed to the organization ahead of the 2023-2024 OHL season.

The 2005-born centre from Lahti, Finland spent last season with the Pelicans Lahti U20. In 41 games, Kumpulainen scored 11 goals and added 23 assists. Kumpulainen also has international experience, representing Finland at the U18 level as an assistant captain where he won a bronze medal.

Kumpulainen is just the third Finn to have committed to the Generals. He joins alumni Jimi Kuronen and Oliver Suni.

“It’s a very exciting day when you can get a player of Rasmus’ calibre to join the likes of Calum Ritchie and the rest of our core players,” said Oshawa Generals Manager Roger Hunt.

Ahead of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-3 forward was ranked 69th by TSN’s Craig Button.  Scouts alike described him as a big, two-way centerman who competes well and is comfortable using his large frame to win battles along the boards and cause chaos around the net.

He was then taken in the second round, 53rd overall by the Minnesota Wild at the draft in June.

“Signing with Oshawa was a no-brainer after hearing so many good things about the team, city, and the great fans,” said Kumpulainen. “This is the next step I’ve been looking for in my career. See you soon Oshawa, I can’t wait to get things started!”
