Nashville Predators live score updates vs. Edmonton Oilers in Mattias Ekholm’s return

by admin

The Nashville Predators return home to face the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday at Bridgestone Arena.

Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm returns to Bridgestone Arena for the first time since he was traded to Edmonton on February 28 before the deadline. The Swedish defenseman was traded to the Oilers for defenseman Tyson Barrie, a 2023 first round pick, a 2025 fourth round pick, prospect Reid Schafer. Ekholm had 14 points (4 goals and 10 assists) in 21 games for the Oilers, who lost to Vegas in six games in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs last spring. The 33-year-old has recovered from a preseason hip injury and made his season debut on Saturday against Vancouver.

Ekholm’s 12-year Predators career ended with him sitting in fifth in franchise history in career games played and 10th in career points, and he was a stalwart on the blue line along with Roman Josi as the leftovers from a defenseman group that once included P.K. Subban and Ryan Ellis in a dynamic top-four. Expect an emotional welcome back.

Nashville (1-2-0) has been off since Saturday’s 3-2 loss in Boston. Edmonton (0-2-0) was outscored 12-4 in the first two games of the regular season, both losses to Vancouver.
