Recipient of the Red Tilson Trophy in 2021-22, Wyatt Johnston made a smooth jump to the NHL and set a Dallas Stars club record on Saturday.

Dallas defeated the Colorado Avalanche 7-3 and the 19-year-old Johnston scored his 15th goal, the most in a single season by a teenager in Dallas Stars history. The mark sits fourth in the all-time history of the Stars franchise back of other OHL graduates in Brian Bellows (41, 1983-84 and 35, 1982-83) and Tom McCarthy (16, 1979-80) along with Mike Modano (29, 1989-90).

Johnston is tied for fifth in NHL rookie scoring with 29 points (15-14–29) in 63 games.

Selected by the Stars with the 23rd pick of the 2021 NHL Draft, Johnston had a phenomenal 18-year-old season in the OHL, leading the League with 124 points (46-78–124) in 68 regular season games before pacing the OHL Playoffs with 41 points (14-27–41) over 25 contests. The Toronto native was also named the OHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player, finishing the regular season with 26 penalty minutes.

Johnston and the Stars currently sit second in the NHL’s Western Conference with a 34-16-13 record, one point back of the first place Vegas Golden Knights.
