Sabres Make Their First Roster Cuts

The Buffalo Sabres made their first roster cutdowns on Friday, sending 2023 fourth-rounder Ethan Miedema and 2024 seventh-round pick Ryerson Leenders back to the Kingston Frontenacs and Brampton Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League.

The 19-year-old Miedema had a career-high 41 points (18 goals, 23 assists) in 68 games and will return to Kingston for his fourth OHL season. The big left winger will have to be signed to an NHL entry-level deal by next June or the Sabres will lose his rights and he will be eligible for the 2025 NHL Draft.

Leenders, 18, Leenders was the Sabres final selection at the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas (219th overall) and went 24-17-4, with a 3.12 GAA, and .909 save % last season in his second season with the Steelheads.
