Today the Toronto Marlies announced that defencemen Noel Hoefenmayer and Matteo Pietroniro have been re-signed to one-year standard AHL contracts.
Hoefenmayer, 23, appeared in only eight games for the Marlies this past season, but suited up for 46 games for the Newfoundland Growlers, where he found success as an offensively gifted, but defensively sound member of the top four who, like TJ Brodie, could play on either side of the ice. Hoefenmayer recorded 40 points (13 goals) with the Growlers and an additional 18 points in 19 playoff games. He registered three assists in his eight Marlies appearances.

Pietroniro, 23, also spent the majority of the season with the Growlers, appearing in 59 games in the ECHL and only three in the AHL. With the Growlers, Pietroniro became one of Eric Wellwood’s most trusted players, playing top-pair minutes for most of the season. He recorded 27 points (5 goals) in the regular season and three assists in 19 playoff games. He was also one of the team’s alternate captains at times throughout the season.
