According to reports out of Russia, Philadelphia Flyers prospect Ivan Fedotov has been detained in St. Petersburg for alleged evasion of military service.
Fedotov last played for CSKA, a hockey club that serves as part of the Russian army.
Fedotov, who led the Russian Olympic Committee to silver at the 2022 Olympics and signed with the Philadelphia Flyers after the KHL season concluded, was named the top goaltender in the KHL after the regular season. He signed with the Flyers at the conclusion of the campaign and was expected to compete for the backup role for 2022-23.
Fedotov was reportedly taken to the Russian military registration and enlistment office, with his future unclear.
The Russian Federation criminal code states in Article 328 that “evasion from military or alternative civilian service” can lead to up to two years in prison.
