Saginaw, MI. – Saginaw Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill announced Friday (July 29) the Hockey Club has added Justin Pereira as an Assistant Coach.

“As an organization we want to welcome Justin to the Spirit family,” said Drinkill. “He has worked extremely hard to get this opportunity and we are excited for him to join our coaching staff.”

Pereira, 31, comes to the Spirit from the 2007 Oakville Rangers AAA, where he was head coach for the last three seasons. In addition to his head coaching duties with the 07 AAA Rangers, Pereira was the Assistant Coach / Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Oakville Blades Jr. A team in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).

“I am very thankful and extremely thrilled for the opportunity Dave and Chris have provided me to be a part of the Spirit organization,” said Pereira. “I look forward to getting to know all the players and staff and begin building relationships with them. I’m excited to start working with each player and being a part of their development, and the bright future that the Spirit organization has ahead of them.”

The Oakville, Ontario native played parts of five seasons in the OJHL from 2007-2012, scoring 107 points in 169 games. Pereira holds a Bachelor of Physical Education from Brock University.
