The Vancouver Canucks announced Saturday that they have signed goaltender Kevin Lankinen to a one-year contract worth $875,000. The 29-year-old had spent the last two seasons with the Nashville Predators, posting an 11-6-0 record last year. Lankinen has appeared in 112 games in the NHL, posting a career record of 45-43-12 with a .905 save percentage and three shutouts.

Bringing in Lankinen could be a sign that Thatcher Demko may not be ready for the start of the season. Demko is still recovering from what he described as a unique muscle injury and has not played since Game 1 of the Canucks series against the Predators. While Demko has been on the ice at Training Camp, he has not been part of the main group practices.
In a press release, GM Patrik Allvin wrote “Kevin is an experienced NHL player who will add to our depth in goal. He had a solid season last year in Nashville and has the size and skillset we like in a netminder. We look forward to getting him here to start working with our group.”

According to Head Coach Rick Tocchet, Lankinen is expected to join the team on Monday after they return from Training Camp. As for the Canucks, they kick off their preseason scheduled on Tuesday against the Seattle Kraken. Game time is set for 7:00 pm PT from Rogers Arena.
