PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College men’s ice hockey team began its 2024-25 season on Friday evening, as the visiting Golden Flyers from Nazareth College picked up a 2-1 victory on Elmira’s home ice. For Elmira, their lone offense came from Seth Ferguson ’28 in the 15th minute of play in the first period, his first collegiate goal.
Nazareth would see the game-winner just under six minutes into the second period off the stick of Andrew Miller, assisted by Cole Bauman.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It would take just 2:56 for the Golden Flyers to find the back of the net in the first period as Ethan Louisos scored on an assist from Liam Quinlivan. The next 12 minutes of play would go quiet before Ferguson scored the equalizer past Golden Flyers netminder Dylan Wiemer, his only blemish of the evening after stopping 21 shots.
- The goal from Ferguson, his first collegiate tally, was assisted by Nathan Young ’26.
- As the first period wound to a close and saw the contest tied at 1-1, Nazareth would score the eventual game-winner at the 5:59 mark in the second, as Andrew Miller found the back of the net past Kyle Curtin ’26, who made 25 saves on the evening. Curtin would play the majority of the contest, with Brody Haynes ’26 playing the final seconds following an Elmira penalty in the third period.
- The third period would go quietly on both sides, with Nazareth narrowly leading the shots on goal battle 6-5. Despite, Elmira would take three penalties in the third compared to zero for the Golden Flyers, and in all would serve 25 penalty minutes compared to just eight for Nazareth.
