ROVANIEMI, Finland – Three-year Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey Captain Sydney Harris ’21 has signed with RoKi Naiset in the Finnish Naisten Liiga, the team announced on its social media accounts on Wednesday.

A Pueblo, Colorado native, Harris skated in 125 career games for the Purple & Gold across five seasons and wore the “C” on her jersey in each of the last three years for the Soaring Eagles. She closed her career by tallying three goals and three assists for Elmira during the 2021-22 campaign while adding a game-winning goal against UMass Boston on January 28 in a 4-1 decision.

Harris added 36 points during her time donning the Purple & Gold while finishing with four goals and 32 assists. A 2017-18 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar, she was a two-time UCHC All-Academic team recipient and was named to the 2022 NEHC All-Academic squad.

Her leadership both on and off the ice during her time at EC lead to Harris being named the recipient of the 2021-22 Ellen Gibbs Matson Award, which is presented to a graduating student-athlete whose athletic eligibility has expired and who has shown, in action, Ellen’s leadership, joy of life, and commitment to Elmira College.

Harris helped the Soaring Eagles advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament four times with EC finishing runner-up in 2017-18 and fourth this past year. EC’s defense was a mainstay at the top of several national categories during Harris’ time defending the defensive zone for the Soaring Eagles with the team finishing the 2021-22 season ranked third in scoring defense and fifth in scoring margin.

She is the latest Elmira alumna to reach the professional ranks, joining Maddie Evangelous ’19, Sarah Hughson ’18, Meghan Fonfara ’18, Cassidy Delainey ’15, Ashley Ryan ’15, Ella Stewart ’14, Ashton Hogan ’15, Katie Gaskin ’14, Tanis Lamoureux ’14 and Lauren Sullivan ’13.
