At this point there are probably more players on the Leafs injured list than there are in either of the training camp groups. While the injuries have provided us with fun little moments like Alex Kerfoot and Calle Jarnkrok playing defense, they’ve certainly been a nuisance in the grand scheme of things (see: the cap situation vs. the Tavares and Liljegren injuries.)
The Leafs had a couple of updates today on the injury front:
Fraser Minten’s first NHL camp is over. Wrist injury.

The end of Minten’s camp is very unfortunate as he has really shown what he is capable of and built a lot of excitement around himself. The fact that he’s now injured not only means he’s leaving the Leafs camp prematurely, but also could delay the start of his WHL season for some time. Minten was also one of the few Leafs prospects who would have been eligible for the World Juniors this December, and with spots on Team Canada being hard to come by, this will certainly impact his chances there too.
Sheldon Keefe they won’t have an update on Benn and Dahlstrom until tomorrow. Waiting on MRI results.

Really the Sandin signing couldn’t have come at a better time, and hopefully we’ll start seeing more and more of Jake Muzzin involved in the Leafs camp as well. As for the impact of Benn and Dahlstrom’s injuries, Benn seemed on track to be the Leafs 7th or 8th defenseman. He was also going to require waivers and if he’s bound for the long term injured reserve, that might spare him a trip on waivers and the Leafs risking him being claimed.
Dahlstrom’s injury is a further challenge to the Leafs defensive depth that will likely open a door for opportunities for Filip Kral.
In better news, both Jake Muzzin and Adam Gaudette were practicing today, and early next week was the timeline for getting an update on Pierre Engvall.
