The Seattle Kraken announced Friday morning that Canadian World Junior gold medalist Shane Wright has been re-assigned to the Kingston Frontenacs.
Wright, who celebrated his 19th birthday with a goal in Canada’s 3-2 overtime gold medal triumph over Czechia in Halifax on Thursday, returns to Kingston where he wears the ‘C’ and was the OHL’s Rookie of the Year in 2019-20.
Selected by Seattle with the fourth overall pick of the 2022 NHL Draft last summer, Wright skated in eight games with Seattle this season, scoring his first career NHL goal in his most recent game on Dec. 6th against Montreal. He also appeared in five games on a conditioning loan with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds, scoring four times.
A right-shot centreman from Burlington, Ont., Wright re-joins the Frontenacs where he set a franchise record for rookies with 39 goals during the 2019-20 campaign. He finished last season with 32 goals, 62 assists and 94 points in 63 contests, adding 14 points (3-11–14) in the playoffs as Kingston fell in the second round to North Bay.
Wright’s World Junior experience was golden as he put up seven points (4-3–7) in as many games to help Canada repeat as gold medalists for the first time since 2008 & 2009.
The Frontenacs are at home to the Owen Sound Attack on Friday, visit the Peterborough Petes on Saturday and pay a visit to the Ottawa 67’s on Wednesday night.
