COVENTRY BLAZE 4 SHEFFIELD STEELERS 6

Sheffield Steelers were made to work, but got the edge in the third period to claim another big victory over Coventry Blaze in the Elite Series.

Aaron Fox’s side had to fight back from two goals, but he will be pleased by the character shown as they notched up their fourth straight win to keep them top of the table.

However, it was Blaze who put them in front when Tristan Keck found a gap to squeeze past Ben Churchfield short side to give them a lead after four minutes.

Former Steeler Luke Ferrara doubled the lead on the powerplay and Steelers had to roll their sleeves to get back in the game.

They finally got the response they were after early in the second when Tanner Eberle got the tip on a Liam Kirk shot to get them back on track.

Sheffield finally drew level as Jonathan Phillips got the final touch on a shot from Davey Phillips then Sam Jones got his first goal for the club 35 seconds later to put them ahead.

Mike Hammond fired an excellent shot past Churchfield to level the game for Coventry after the second interval and it was game on.

Steelers rose to the challenge and it was Sondre Olden with the finish past Shane Owen to put them ahead again before Jason Hewitt, with four goals in four, adding Sheffield’s fifth.

Blaze suddenly found themselves with a mountain to climb, made even higher with the time left in the game and while Keck’s second lured Sheffield closer, it was Brendan Connolly who made sure with an empty net finish at the death to confirm victory.
