SPECIAL SERIES OF âNWHL OPEN ICEâ CONTENT COMING TO TWITCH
Katie Gaus to Host Three Shows including NWHL Awards in April
April 14, 2021 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) â The National Womenâs Hockey League today announced a special series of âNWHL Open Iceâ content in partnership with Twitch featuring themes that will celebrate the stars of the 2021 NWHL season, highlight the world of womenâs hockey, and look forward to season seven with future league talent.
The three special series programs will air live on Twitch.tv/NWHL. While dates and times are still to be determined, the first show will air later this month where all 2021 NWHL award winners will be unveiled. A show in May will be dedicated to the IIHF World Womenâs Championship, followed by a show in July that recaps the NWHL Draft.
âWe love our online community that has developed on Twitchâs streaming platform and how engagement levels have grown as NWHL fans interact with each other during live broadcasts,â said NWHL Commissioner Tyler Tumminia. âWeâre excited to provide this unique opportunity for fans to stay connected during spring and summer months.â
Katie Gaus will host the series and is no stranger to the NWHL or the Twitch platform. The Florida Panthersâ digital reporter and Bally Sports Florida sideline reporter served as a member of the international broadcast team for regular-season games in Lake Placid as well as during the Isobel Cup Playoffs.
âI am extremely excited to continue working with the NWHL as host of the upcoming Open Ice series,â said Gaus. âDuring my coverage of the Isobel Cup, I experienced first-hand the excitement surrounding the league and the passion of the fans, so I am thrilled to be a part of this series providing them even more coverage of their favorite teams and players.â
This season the leagueâs following on Twitch increased 260% year-over-year accumulating two million views. Fans collectively watched 15.7 million minutes of live NWHL content and logged over 130,000 chat messages during live games.
âNWHL Open Iceâ made its online debut this season on January 13, 2020, as a weekly interactive talk show featuring NWHL personalities answering questions about their lives in hockey and beyond the rink. Past episodes can still be viewed on the leagueâs Twitch page.
Stay tuned to NWHL social media accounts for special series broadcast details plus additional off-season content on Twitch.
