(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that Czechia import goaltender, Jakub Vondras has committed to the Hockey Club. The 19-year-old was selected by the Wolves in the first round of the 2023 Import Selection (22 Overall) and played last season with the Czechia U20 team.

“I’m grateful to wear the wolf on my jersey,” said the Carolina Hurricanes prospect. “I believe Sudbury will know the feeling of success. I am excited to get to Sudbury to meet the coaches and my new teammates,” Vondras added.

“We are very excited to have Jakub commit to our hockey club,” said VP & General Manager Rob Papineau. “He is an NHL drafted goalie who has had great success in Czechia. He has a strong will to succeed this year and strong personal goals that align with our team goals. We look forward to his veteran presence that will help both our team and out younger strong group of goaltenders.”

Vondras was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 6th round, 171st overall, during the 2022 NHL Draft. In 29 regular season games, he posted a 18-10 record with a 2.19 GAA and .929 SV%.

The Carolina Hurricanes prospect will be joining a competitive squad of returning players including five other NHL prospects; David Goyette (Seattle Kraken), Nolan Collins (Pittsburgh Penguins), Quentin Musty (San Jose Sharks), Alex Pharand (Chicago Blackhawks) and Matthew Mania (LA Kings).
