NHL Puckdoku answers and clues: September 27th, 2023

The new game “Puckdoku” is taking the hockey world by storm. Here’s how it works. There’s a 3×3 grid, and each row and column are marked with either a team or a statistic of some sort. You have to guess players who meet the criteria for both the column and the row for the square you’re on. For example…if your square is in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ column and the St. Louis Blue row…Ryan O’Reilly would work. If it’s in the Washington Capitals column and the row says “40+ goals in a season”, Alex Ovechkin would work. You can play the daily Puckdoku puzzle here:

There’s also a rarity score in the form of a percentage next to the player you guess…the lower the percentage, the more rare the guess. Once you start getting used to the game, you want to shoot for a low rarity score. 

Without further ado, here are some hints for today’s Puckdoku puzzle, designed by former NHL player and current broadcaster Ray Ferarro.

Blues/Islanders: Player is a journeyman goaltender who’s played for seven different teams

Drafted round 2+/Islanders: Player is a defenceman primarily known for his days with the Boston Bruins

Islanders/500+ GP career: Player is currently the captain of an Atlantic Division team

Blues/played in WHL: Player is the younger brother of a defenceman who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022-23

Drafted round 2+/played in WHL: Player won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011

500+ GP career/played in WHL: Player was drafted by the Dallas Stars but is known for his time with the Calgary Flames

Blues/played for team Canada: Player won a Cup with the Blues and also the Vegas Golden Knights

Drafted round 2+/played for team Canada: Player won the Frank J. Selke trophy six times during his career

500+ GP career/played for team Canada: Player was drafted first overall in 2005
