Alexander Holtz Looking To Bring Offence To The Golden Knights While Staying Defensively Responsible

Alexander Holtz is looking to bring offence to the Vegas Golden Knights while improving defensively.

The 22-year-old’s time with the New Jersey Devils didn’t end the way he or the franchise had hoped when he was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He showed flashes of offensive potential but was never able to garner enough trust from both Lindy Ruff and Travis Green to move up the lineup.

With the move to the Golden Knights, Holtz is hoping the change of scenery unlocks his offensive game.

“I hope I can fill an offensive role here. Find my game a little bit. I’ve been missing it a bit at the NHL level. I far excited for this opportunity here and really excited to get the season going.”

Despite his claim that offence is what he wants to bring to Vegas, Holtz understands that the Golden Knights have built their game under HC Bruce Cassidy by being a defensively responsible team. In his early press conferences, Cassidy stated that he wants to be the best defensive team in the Pacific Division. The Stockholm, Sweden native’s acknowledgment of this could help him transition quickly and gain a larger role throughout the season.

“It’s a little mix, still play my game but I need to be a good 200-foot player and I need to be able to go that too. It’s been a little chat but nothing too crazy.”

There’s a great opportunity in front of Holtz and if he’s able to see it and seize it, the Golden Knights could have a great player in their hands. Through two days of training camp, Holtz has skated alongside Tomas Hertl and Nicolas Roy, giving him plenty of skill to work with.
