Four OHL Players Named to U.S. World Junior Summer Showcase Roster – Ontario Hockey League

USA Hockey unveiled it’s 44-man roster for the 2021 World Junior Summer Showcase to be held from July 24-31 in Plymouth, Mich.

The Showcase, which will also include teams from Finland and Sweden, will serve as an evaluation for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2021, through Jan. 5, 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

A total of four OHL players were included on the roster including Erie Otters goaltender Aidan Campbell, Niagara IceDogs netminder Tucker Tynan, Soo Greyhounds forward Tanner Dickinson and Kitchener Rangers forward Declan McDonnell.

A 6-foot-5, 188Ib. product of Cranberry Twp., Pennsylvania, Campbell played to a 10-8-1-4 record in his rookie season with the Otters in 2019-20, posting a 3.65 goals-against average and .872 save percentage. The former 12th round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection recorded his first career OHL shutout with a 29-save performance on Feb. 17, 2020 in Mississauga. Campbell turns 19 on August 22.

Feel-good story Tucker Tynan of the Niagara IceDogs has recovered from what some thought would be a career-ending injury suffered on December 12, 2019. Tynan suffered a torn quad muscle in his right leg after suffering a skate laceration in a game against the London Knights. The 19-year-old from Chicago, Illinois was having an excellent first season in the OHL, playing to an 11-8-3-1 mark with a 3.80 goals-against average and .910 save percentage on a rebuilding IceDogs team. The athletic 6-foot, 165Ib. netminder has battled all the way back, overcoming adversity to earn himself an invitation to the World Junior Summer Showcase.

St. Louis Blues prospect Tanner Dickinson posted 40 points (9-31–40) over 64 games as an OHL rookie in 2019-20. The 19-year-old from Perrysburg, Ohio was signed by the Hounds as a free agent in May 2019. The hard-working 6-foot, 155Ib. forward got into three games with the AHL’s Utica Comets this past season.

The final pick of the 2020 NHL Draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Kitchener Rangers winger Declan McDonnell will be showcasing his skills in Plymouth this summer. The 5-foot-10, 175Ib. native from Lake View, New York had an impressive 21 goal, 21 assist rookie season for the Rangers in 2019-20. The right-winger was Kitchener’s third round pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.

Of the 44 players attending, six are returnees from last year’s U.S. National Junior Team that earned a gold medal at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Alberta.
