Alberga & Rosehill believe the Leafs have it in them to win again without Auston Matthews: Leafs Morning Take

by

Scotiabank Arena has been a house of horrors for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the postseason in recent memory.

If they want a shot at redemption in Game 7 in Boston, they’ll need to find a way to get the job done on home ice.

And as we discussed near the tail-end of the show, they’ll have to do so without Auston Matthews, who will miss his second straight game.

At any rate, we kicked off the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing the whole Rod Brind’Amour situation in Carolina. According to multiple reports from Wednesday, contract talks are at an impasse, which means Brind’Amour could hit the open market this summer. If he does, you know the Leafs could be sniffing around. We’ll see what happens. This has negotiating through the media written all over it.

Presented by Greta Bar YYZ, we kicked off the show by discussing some of the morning skate news. As mentioned, Matthews won’t play. Also, it was closed that Bobby McMann is “progressing well,” whatever that means. At this point, it appears that the Leafs will be dressing the same lineup as Game 5.

After that, delivered by Wendy’s, we went deeper into some of the numbers surrounding Toronto’s postseason struggles on home ice. They’ve dropped six in a row and seven of the past eight playoff games over at Scotiabank Arena. Absolutely wild stuff. On top of all that, dating back to last year, the Leafs have three goals or less in 12 straight playoff games.

Meantime, brought to you by Douglas, Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin dropped by for a scene setter. We touched on his latest article about Joseph Woll, Jim Montgomery’s comments in the media over the past few days, and William Nylander having to step up.

Win or lose, make sure to join us for the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We’ll either preview Game 7 or begin the post-mortem on another first round exit.
