The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have signed 23-year-old defenseman Arber Xhekaj to a two-year extension worth $1.3 million annually.
Xhekaj has spent the past two seasons playing with both Montreal and their AHL affiliate Laval Rocket. He has appeared in 95 games as a Hab and amassed 23 points during that span.
Xhekaj became a fan favorite by dealing out hard hits and decisively winning fights on the ice. He was one of the most important players eligible to be extended by the Canadiens front office this off-season, along with Justin Barron and Kaiden Guhle.
