The Hershey Bears have bolstered their already strong blueline, signing all-star defenseman Brad Hunt to a one-year AHL contract for the 2024-25 season.

The 35-year-old Hunt led the Colorado Eagles in points last season with 49 in 70 games. He served as the team’s captain and was named an all-star for the fifth time. He was named to the AHL First All-Star Team for the second time in his career.

An elite offensive defenseman, Hunt finished second in the AHL among defenders in scoring last season. He has 80 goals and 199 assists in 381 career AHL games, with 19 points in 23 career Calder Cup playoff games.

In parts of 10 NHL seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, Vancouver Canucks, and Colorado Avalanche, Hunt has recorded 26 goals and 60 assists in 288 games.

The Maple Ridge, BC, native won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, he notched three assists in 10 games.

The Bears have won back-to-back Calder Cup championships and this move signifies their motivation to chase a third straight title. Hunt should comfortably slide in as the quarterback on Hershey’s first powerplay unit and can play big minutes at even strength.
