Former QMJHL defenseman and Detroit Red Wings draft pick Jared McIsaac is making a more permanent move to Europe after signing a one-year contract with HC Litvinov in Czechia. The Nova Scotian has yet to play an NHL regular season game in his career.
Last season, he opted to remain with the Red Wings organization, but played with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. Eventually, he got loaned to Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland and later made a return to the AHL, finishing the season with the another loan to the Providence Bruins.
McIsaac had a memorable career in the QMJHL, which started with him winning the Raymond Lagacé Trophy as QMJHL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was selected with the second-overall pick in the 2016 QMJHL draft by the Halifax Mooseheads, who also drafted Benoit-Olivier Groulx first overall.
McIsaac spent over three seasons with the Mooseheads before being dealt to the Moncton Wildcats to finish off his career in the juniors. In 205 regular season QMJHL games, McIsaac put up 33 goals and 160 points. He added another two goals and 20 points in 36 playoff games. During his time in the juniors, McIsaac also won the gold medal at the 2020 World Junior Championship.
Although he was projected to be drafted in the first round of the 2018 NHL draft, McIsaac fell to the second round, where the Red Wings selected him 36th overall. Since then, McIsaac spent just over three seasons with the Griffins but was never able to make the jump with the Red Wings.
