After multiple injuries derailed his career in San Jose, Knyzhov couldn’t find his way back to a consistent NHL role. In the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 season, He was partnered with Erik Karlsson and played all 56 games.
He scored two goals and had eight assists, but he was minus nine. His smooth skating paired well with Karlsson, and when Karlsson jumped in on the offense, Knyzhov was dependable in covering the defense.
Knyzhov has a chance to reunite with Karlsson and former Sharks head coach David Quinn in Pittsburgh.
