Now that we are closing in on the end of August, most of the top players who hit the free-agent market this summer have been signed. While this is true, some intriguing players remain unsigned, with NHL training camps right around the corner.

One of the most notable goaltenders available for the taking happens to be a former Philadelphia Flyer, as Martin Jones is still looking for his new home.
Jones, 34, spent this past season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he was primarily their third-string goaltender. Overall, he handled himself well with the Maple Leafs, as he posted an 11-8-1 record, a .902 save percentage (SV%), and a 2.87 goals-against average (GAA) in 22 games. After a decent season like this, he could receive some interest from clubs looking for more goalie depth.
Jones’ experience also could make him get some consideration for a professional tryout (PTO) agreement or league-minimum contract. In 466 career NHL games split between the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Flyers, Seattle Kraken, and Maple Leafs, he has a 236-171-36 record, a 2.72 GAA, and a .905 SV%. In his lone season as a Flyer in 2021-22, he had a 12-18-3 record and a .900 SV%.
Nevertheless, there is potential for Jones to land a contract before the start of the season. From here, we will need to wait and see what happens on that front.
