The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have signed goaltender Jon Gillies to a Professional Tryout contract and that he will attend Maple Leafs training camp.
The 30-year-old did not play last season, his last professional games were in 2022-23 when he played 15 games for the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners and three for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2021 draft by the Calgary Flames, Gillies spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL, racking up a record of 78-71-32 with a .904 SV% and 2.94 GAA.
The two-time NCAA Second Team All-American appeared in NHL games for the Flames, Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, and New Jersey Devils, he has a career 15-18-2 record with a .891 SV% and 3.50 GAA.
Gillies has a relationship with Maple Leafs General Manager Brad Treliving, he joined the Stockon Heat for the 2015-16 season, one season after Treliving joined the Calgary organization.
The Maple Leafs will have Gillies, Joseph Woll, Anthony Stolarz, Matt Murray, Dennis Hildeby, Artur Akhtyamov, and Vyacheslav Peksa at training camp.
The Concord, NH, native won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2013 World Juniors and a NCAA Championship with Providence College 2015, he also won Tournament MVP and was Hockey East Goaltender of the Year.
Once a highly touted prospect, Gillies dealt with multiple hip injuries that kept him from consistent playing time.
