Penguins Sign ECHL Goalie to PTO

by admin

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Thursday that they signed Luke Richardson to a PTO. The 25-year-old from Barrie, ON, has played in the ECHL the past two seasons, compiling a 9-1-1 record with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

Undrafted, Richardson has had a brief cup of coffee in the AHL, skating three games with the Belleville Senators in 2022-23, going winless with a 0-1-1 record and .873 SV% and 3.99 GAA.

He spent his junior days with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL, earning a respectable 62-40-6 record with a 3.53 GAA and .891 SV%.

After aging out of the OHL, Richardson honed his craft at Queen’s University, where he played from 2019 to 2023, earning a shot to play with the Senators in the AHL.

Ultimately, the Penguins’ move to bring in another goalie is interesting. Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic are holding down the fort in the NHL, with Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Marushov waiting in the minors. Altogether, there are currently seven netminders on the payroll.
