According to Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey, former Buffalo Sabres players Nathan Beaulieu, Will Butcher, and C.J. Smith have all had their contracts terminated by Barys Astana of the KHL. Former NHL players Wade Allison, Chase De Leo, Alex Grant, and Michael McLeod are also among Barys Astana’s cuts.

Beaulieu, 31, appeared in 89 games with the Sabres over two seasons, posting four goals, 16 points, 78 hits, and a minus-18 rating. His time with the Sabres ended when he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets for a sixth-round pick during the 2018-19 season. In eight games with Barys Astana this season, he had one assist.

Butcher, 29, appeared in 37 games with the Sabres during the 2021-22 season, recording two goals, eight points, and a minus-10 rating. This was the last time Butcher played at the NHL level. In 15 games with Barys Astana, he had three assists and a minus-7 rating.
