Former Seattle Kraken and Coachella Valley Firebirds goaltender, Christopher Gibson has signed a contract in Slovakia.
The 31-year-old Finnish goaltender has signed a contract to play the remainder of the season with HC Nové Zámky, the Slovak Extraliga club announced on social media.
Gibson was selected in the second round, 49th overall, by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2011 NHL Draft but never signed with the team. Instead, he signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013.
Gibson’s professional North American career was spent between 2013-2023, with him mainly playing in the AHL. He did however make it to the NHL, playing 16 games, posting .901 SV% and a 3.33 GAA, good enough for a 4-5-3 record. His 16 NHL games were played with the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Gibson’s one season with the Kraken organization was his final season in North America during the 2022-23 campaign. He played 20 games with the Firebirds, recording a .894 SV% and a 2.99 GAA.
Nové Zámky sits in last place with just four wins in 19 games but the club is attempting to turn around its season by overhauling its roster. The club has added several players over the past month, including former NHLers Nick Ritchie, Jayce Hawryluk, Nathan Beaulieu and Christian Thomas.
