ST. PAUL- The Minnesota Wild have made a trade. They have acquired defensive prospect David Jiricek from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Daemon Hunt and draft picks.
The Wild are sending Hunt, a conditional first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, 2026 third-round (previously acquired from Colorado) and fourth-round (previously acquired from Toronto) picks and a 2027 second-round pick.
Minnesota gets Jiricek and 2025 fifth-round pick.
Jiricek, 21, was the Blue Jackets sixth overall pick from the 2022 NHL Draft. He has played 53 NHL games in his career with the Blue Jackets. Jiricek has one goal and ten assists in parts of three seasons for Columbus.
The 6-foot-3 defender skated in 43 games last year and posted one goal and nine assists. This season he has only played in six NHL games and has one assist in six games, his assist was against the Wild on opening night.
Jiricek was just recently sent down to the AHL.
He has returned to the AHL and has two goals and one assist in four games. In 88 career games in the AHL, Jiricek has 15 goals, 45 assists, and 60 points across three seasons.
This move provides the Wild with a good and young right-shot defender to build around along with Brock Faber and soon-to-be Zeev Buium.
