Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced today his fourth signing in advance of the upcoming 2022-23 Ontario Hockey League season.
Today, 2022 third round selection Alex Kostov agreed to a Standard Player Agreement and Education package with the club.
“Each time you watch Alex play, you see growth and development in his game. This goes back to watching him in his OHL draft year, right through to our main camp this summer,” started Raftis.
“With his size, skill and tenacity, Alex plays with an edge and is able to create offense and make an impact all over the ice. He’s a sponge in terms of wanting to learn and push his game to new levels and we are excited to get the chance to work with him,” he continued.
Kostov, a native of Mississauga ON, played last season (2021-22) for the Markham Majors U16 AAA. In 23 regular season games played, the 6.02, 179-lb forward recorded 12 goals and 7 assists, good for 19 points.
“It is a honour to sign with such an amazing and honourable organization such as the Soo Greyhounds. I have already heard many great things about the city and the dedicated fans living within it. First off I would like to thank the Soo Greyhounds for believing in me and giving me this opportunity to play for them’ started the very appreciative Kostov.
He added, “Now I would like to thank my family for always believing in me and supporting me when no one else did in my journey. I want to thank them for the late nights they spent driving me to rinks and the countless amounts of money they spent on me to help me achieve my dream. Next I would like to thank my agency and any close friends that has helped me progress in my journey. Finally I would Like to thank every coach I have ever had as in one way or another they have helped me grow into the person I am today and for that I am thankful.”
