Barrie Colts graduate Arturs Silovs got his first taste of the NHL on Wednesday, getting the start for the Vancouver Canucks’ 6-4 home ice loss to the New York Rangers. The Riga, Latvia native made his NHL debut at the age of 21 as he made 22 saves, getting the call-up and start with Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko out with an injury.
Silovs spent the 2019-20 season in Barrie after being chosen by the Colts 11th overall in the 2019 CHL Import Draft. He joined the OHL as a Canucks prospect, having been taken in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. Silovs played to a 16-13-2-2 mark with a 3.87 goals-against average and .891 save percentage with one shutout over 36 games for Barrie.
So far in his pro career, the 6-foot-4, 202Ib. Silovs has spent the bulk of his time in the American Hockey League, going 21-9-4 this season with a 2.48 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in 35 games with the Abbotsford Canucks.
