The Seattle Kraken announced Thursday that North Bay Battalion blueliner Ty Nelson has signed a three-year entry-level NHL contract with the club.

Nelson, 19, from Toronto, helped guide the Battalion to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Championship Series, leading the OHL Playoffs in scoring up until their elimination with 25 points (6-19–25) over 20 games.

A former first overall OHL Priority Selection choice in 2020, Nelson set a new Battalion single season record for defencemen in 2022-23, putting up 76 points including 24 goals and 52 assists over 67 games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-21. He was voted to the OHL’s second all-rookie team in 2021-22, recording 51 points (9-42–51) over 66 contests.

The Kraken picked Nelson, a 5-foot-10, 203Ib. right-shot defender, in the third round (68th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
