Throughout the 2022-23 off-season, the Ontario Hockey League will be spotlighting a member from each team’s front office staff as we look to highlight those working “Behind the Scenes” of the day-to-day operations.
Wearing multiple hats within the organization, the newest addition of OHL Behind the Scenes features North Bay Battalion Senior Manager of Accounting, Yolanda Haight.
YH: My name is Yolanda Haight and I have been working for the North Bay Battalion for nine years. My pride and joy are my two daughters, Kina and McKayla. My hometown is Barrie, Ont. and I graduated from Georgian College for Business Administration and Accounting in 2004. My husband and I moved to North Bay 17 years ago and immediately fell in love with this city.
What are your responsibilities as the North Bay Battalion’s Senior Manager of Accounting?
YH: The North Bay Battalion is a small organization. We only have six full-time administration staff so it’s all hands-on deck. Aside from doing all the accounting, I also set up the ticketing for all the events held at Memorial Gardens here in North Bay.
What led you to your current role with the Battalion?
YH: My career had been in public accounting at a large firm. I have always had a passion for sports so when the opportunity arose to join the Battalion, I had to jump on it.
What has been your favourite part of the job?
YH: Being able to give back to my community. The Battalion is a great organization and is involved in many local charities.
What sparked your interest in junior hockey?
YH: Our family tradition is to watch the World Juniors Championship. Knowing that these athletes will become the next generation of elite NHL talent is very exciting to be around every day.
Being with the team for almost 9 years now, how would you describe the comradery of the Battalion front office staff?
YH: We are not only a team on the ice, we are a team off the ice. Everyone works together to contribute to the team’s success and bring quality entertainment to our fans.
