Five players have worn #57 in team history, and all of them wore it for a very brief time. There was one guy, however, who was pretty good for the Penguins and blossomed into a very good player for a lot of years.
The best #57 in Penguins’ history is David Perron.
Perron – who also wore #39 for part of his Penguins’ tenure – was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers during the 2014-15 season. He already had three 20-goal seasons under his belt, with his prior 28-goal, 57-point season being the highlight.
Although he never quite lived up to what he did in Edmonton and, later, in St. Louis, he still showed flashes in Pittsburgh of his skill and soft hands.
Perron is also known for being good in shootouts, and that was the case in Pittsburgh as well:
Through 86 games in Pittsburgh, Perron registered 16 goals and 38 points. He was traded to the Anaheim Ducks during the 2015-16 season, and he has since played with Vegas, St. Louis, and Detroit. He currently suits up for the Ottawa Senators.
