Rod Brind’Amour isn’t going anywhere.Â
After months of negotiating and numerous conflicting reports regarding its completion, the Carolina Hurricanes officially announced at a media availability on Thursday morning that they have signed their head coach to a three-year contract extension.Â
The financial details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.Â
For the Hurricanes, retaining Brind’Amour was close to a no-brainer as it gets in hockey. The former captain-turned-bench boss has injected new life into the once-stagnant organization he played for throughout his three years at the helm, earning a combined 120-66-20 record while guiding the Hurricanes to their first division crown since 2005-06 and a franchise-record .714 regular-season points percentage in 2021.Â
Brind’Amour earned a Jack Adams nomination last week for his troubles, the first of his career, and, were he to win, would be the first Hurricanes coach ever to take home the award.Â
Furthermore, Brind’Amour confirmed during his media availability that his desire to ensure the rest of his staff were given contract extensions of their own, which had been reported as the primary sticking point delaying negotiations of his own deal, has been taken care of. All systems are “Go”.Â
“I’d have a hard time doing this job somewhere else,” said Brind’Amour, when asked if he ever considered testing the open market.Â
With a roster bursting at the seams with talent and a litany of young players behind them waiting in the wings, the sky is the limit for this Hurricanes team. Today, they officially locked in the man who they believe can take them there.Â
