It’s time to see if the Leafs learned anything from their latest soul crushing loss.
Robertson vs. Robertson. Fresh off their 2-1 victory in Buffalo on Tuesday night, the Dallas Stars are in town to tangle with Toronto at Scotiabank Arena.
We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by discussing Edmonton’s incredible winning streak. For the first time in 49 days, the Oilers lost a game – 3-1 to Vegas – which snapped Edmonton’s 16-game heater. Pretty incredible stuff. Also, we dissected the John Tavares CRA story. The Leafs captain is taking the Canada Revenue Agency to court in a fight over more than $8-million in taxes and interest the government says Tavares owes.
Presented by Door Dash, The Appetizer focused on Sheldon Keefe’s critical comments about his Timothy Liljegren and his team over the past 48 hours. Furthermore, it’s felt for weeks like the players are tuning him out. Over the past few months, Keefe has sounded increasingly agitated and triggered in the media.
Brought to you by Seagram’s VO Select Canadian Whisky, next, we tackled the Joseph Woll conversation. Finally, the 25-year-old, who’s been out since December 7 with a high ankle sprain, was a full participant in practice on Tuesday. That said, it sounds like he’s still a few weeks away from a possible return.
As per usual, the Wendy’s Daily Faceoff Survivor sponsored the game preview segment. In their previous meeting in Dallas in late October, the Leafs smothered the Stars 4-1. Simply put, Toronto needs this one badly. Unsurprisingly, Ilya Samsonov will get the call in goal.
Meantime, courtesy BATL Axe, the incomparable Brian Burke dropped by the show once again. We discussed William Nylander, Sheldon Keefe, and what the Leafs should do between now and the March 8th trade deadline.
Lastly, make a note to join us for the Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take for a full recap of Wednesday’s contest, plus a look ahead to what’s next for Sheldon Keefe and company.
