It was a tough day at the office for Roman Rotenberg and the SKA St. Petersburg who lost 2-0 against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The victors scored both of their goals on the power play, the first of which was scored by former Montreal Canadiens player and Laval Rocket captain Byron Froese (he played 48 games with the Habs) with an assist from another former Canadiens, Alexander Radulov.

The first goal came early in the second frame while the second was scored with less than two minutes to go in the game. Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov was not as visible in today’s game, spending just over 10 minutes on the ice across 12 shifts. He also registered a shot on goal and one blocked shot.
In the first frame, Demidov had 4:43 on the ice, then 4:28 in the middle frame and finally 1:01 in the final frame in which he only had one shift. It should be noted SKA was down by one and trying to claw its way back in the game. It’s in that sole shift in the third that he registered his shot on goal.

It’s normal for a young player to have ups and downs over a season and it’s far from being time to panic for Canadiens fans. It will however be interesting to see how both he and the team bounce back from this loss which gives them a 1-1-1 record on the season.
There aren’t that many good highlights to show from this one, aside from a first period shift in which Demidov showed how solid he can be on the puck and a clear ability to keep it out of his opponent’s reach.
SKA will now play its next game on Thursday at 12:30 PM ET against Torpedo, a team coached by former NHLer Igor Larionov and that also has three points to its name after three games, sitting just below SKA in the standings.
