CHL Import Draft continues to produce NHL Drafted talentThe CHL Import Draft continues to be a breeding ground to establishing NHL Draft picks.
Six members from the 2023 CHL Import Draft were selected in the 2024 NHL Draft in Vegas June 28-29 after standout seasons with their respective CHL clubs.
Among those to hear their name called was Brampton Steelheads’ Jakub Fibigr (Seattle), who was selected in the seventh round, 202nd overall by the Kraken in last month’s Draft.
The 6-foot, 171lb. defenceman from Unicov, Czechia registered 43 points (7-36-43) from the Steelheads blue line in 61 regular season games played this past season, along with four points in five playoff contests. On the international level, Fibigr took home a bronze medal with his home country back in January, presenting Czechia at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Since the first CHL Import Draft was held in 1992, more than 2,150 players from outside of Canada and the United States have been selected.
