The Edmonton Oilers have signed 2023 second round NHL Draft selection, Beau Akey, to a three-year entry-level contract.
The 6-foot, 186lb. blueliner was Edmonton’s top pick at the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, selected 56th overall in the second round. Prior to being returned to the Colts, the 18-year-old defenceman enjoyed a productive training camp with the Oilers, suiting up for three Young Stars Classic games as well as Edmonton’s first pre-season matchup vs. Winnipeg.
Back for his third season with the Colts, the Waterloo, Ont. native has registered 17 goals, 49 assists, and 66 points in 131 games played. Akey was Barrie’s first round (19th overall) pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection.
