The Devils have signed defenseman Cal Foote to a one-year, two-way contract, general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced.

The deal is worth $800,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 at the AHL level, with $450,00 guaranteed for the 2023-24 season.

Foote, 24, finished last season with the Nashville Predators after he was dealt from the Tampa Bay Lightning with a few draft picks for Tanner Jeannot ahead of the trade deadline.

In 50 games last season with the two clubs, he tallied seven points (two goals, five assists) with a plus-minus of six. Foote had 63 penalty minutes on the season and had an average time on ice of 15:07.

Over his first two seasons with Tampa since his NHL debut in Jan. 2021, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound blueliner had three goals and 12 assists while playing an average of 13:02 minutes per game over 91 games.

Foote made 13 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs during Tampa’s cup-winning season in his second season, recording two assists and averaging 11:29 minutes on the ice.

Drafted with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 draft, he is the brother of current Devils forward Nolan Foote, and the son of former NHL defenseman Adam Foote.
