Ruhwedel, 34, has played in one game for the Rangers this season, where he has zero points and a plus-2 rating. During this past season, he had one goal and four points in 52 games split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Rangers.
Ruhwedel began his NHL career with the Sabres. In 33 games over four seasons with the Sabres, the 5-foot-11 defender had two assists, 36 hits, and four penalty minutes.
Teams looking for a bit more defensive depth could consider claiming Ruhwedel. If he clears waivers, he will be heading down to the AHL to play with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
