Peterborough, ON – Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke announced today that the Petes have signed 2023 first round OHL Priority Selection pick Carson Cameron to a standard player agreement.

Cameron, a Bobcaygeon, ON native, was selected in the first round, 13th overall by the Petes in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection on April 20. The 6’0”, 171 lbs defenceman captained the Central Ontario Wolves U16 AAA last season, where he recorded 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points in 29 games played. Cameron was also a big part of the gold medal winning Team Ontario in the Canada Winter Games, picking up five points in six games played.

“It’s all pretty surreal,” said Cameron. “It really is a dream come true. I can’t wait to put on the jersey and get to work.”

“We’re really excited to welcome Carson to our team,” noted Petes General Manager Michael Oke. “He is a talented young defenceman who has a bright future ahead of him. We know Petes fans are going to really enjoy watching him play.”

OHL Central Scouting says: “Carson has the ability to control a game from the backend with his skating ability, puck skills and hockey sense. He can beat a forecheck with his skating and is not afraid to join or lead a rush when the opportunity is there. He plays a very heads up style of game as he makes very good decisions with the puck. He has very good composure on the offensive blueline, rarely panics, and does not just throw the puck away. Carson is a very good defender that uses his foot work to take away time and space. He is one of the top defencemen in this age group.”
