Former Milwaukee Admirals Egor Afanasyev and Denis Gurianov Sign with CSKA in KHL

Former Milwaukee Admirals forwards Egor Afanasyev and Denis Gurianov have signed contracts with CSKA Moscow of the KHL, per NHL Rosters, The Hockey News’ Lineup Site and KHL transactions.

Afanasyev’s contract is reportedly three years, while Gurianov’s is a two-year contract.

The 23-year-old Afanasyev was a second round pick of the Nashville Predators in 2019, he recorded 54 points in 56 games with the Admirals last season. In three AHL seasons he had 52 goals and 113 points in 187 games.

A native of Tver, RUS, Afanasyev went pointless in two games with the Predators last season, and has one goal in 19 career NHL games, all with Nashville.

Gurianov was drafted 12th overall by the Dallas Stars in 2015 and had 12 goals and 30 points in 27 games for the Admirals last season. He has 66 goals and 142 points in 217 career AHL games.

A native of Togliatti, RUS, Gurianov had two points in 14 games with Nashville and zero in four games with the Philadelphia Flyers last season. In 298 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Predators, and Flyers, he scored 52 goals and had 113 points.

Afanasyev was recently traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Ozzy Wiesblatt, who he played with on Milwaukee while Wiesblatt was on loan.

The 27-year-old Gurianov signed a one-year deal with Nashville prior to the 2023-24 season, and was traded to the Flyers in March in exchange fro Wade Allison.

Both players are offensively skilled wingers who could have been key players on AHL teams and likely played NHL games next season, but both opt to head to one of the KHL’s most successful teams and be closer to home.
