Through three games this season, the 32-year-old has no points and is minus-2, averaging 11:01 in ice time.
Sheary scored 15 points in 57 games last season as the Lightning were eliminated in the first round to the eventually champion Florida Panthers. Despite his playoff experience with the Penguins and Washington Capitals, he did not dress in the five-game series.
As an undrafted free agent, Sheary began his NHL career in 2015-16 and won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles with the Penguins before moving on to Buffalo, with a second tour in Pittsburgh in 2019-20.
Eventually, he signed as a free agent in the nation’s capital before relocating to Tampa Bay on a three-year deal in July 2023. Whether he clears waivers or not, he’s owed $2 million annually over the next two seasons.
