Former Sabres Defender Still Looking for New Home

by admin

Now that we are essentially in the middle of September, we are starting to see free agents sign professional tryout (PTO) agreements around the NHL. While this is the case, there are still several notable names who have not signed a PTO or contract for the 2024-25 campaign.

Defenseman Marco Scandella is one of the multiple former Sabres who remain unsigned at this juncture of the offseason. However, the possibility of that changing is certainly there.

Scandella, 34, is a veteran defensive defenseman who can still handle bottom-pairing minutes and work on the penalty kill. Because of this, teams needing some help on the left side of their defense could at least consider taking a chance on him with a PTO.

Scandella spent this past season with the St. Louis Blues, where he had two goals, eight points, 70 hits, and a plus-2 rating in 65 games. While it was not a dominant season for the Montreal, Quebec native, he still proved to be serviceable. Thus, the prospect of him getting a cheap one-year contract for the season from a club is there.

Scandella spent three seasons as a member of the Sabres, where he had 14 goals, 44 points, and 182 hits in 176 games. His tenure with the Sabres ended during the 2019-20 season when he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a fourth-round pick.
