Four-Goal Second Period Highlights 6-1 Victory For Soaring Eagles On Friday

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The Elmira College men’s ice hockey program rattled off four unanswered goals in the second period as the Soaring Eagles recorded a 6-1 victory in New England Hockey Conference action on Friday night against Johnson & Wales University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After scoring four goals in his last outing for the Soaring Eagles, the reigning NEHC Player of the Week Chance Gorman ’24 opened the scoring less than two minutes into the second period to make it 1-0 in favor of Elmira. Gorman would find the back of the net off a rebound after a shot by teammate Brendan Schultz ’24 was initially stopped by the Wildcats.

Shawn Kennedy ’24 returned to the lineup for the Soaring Eagles and would make his presence felt by adding to Elmira’s lead at the 5:46 mark of the second period. Kennedy’s goal would be assisted by Kerfalla Toure ’26 and Janis Vizbelis ’24. Jake Russo ’23 pushed the Elmira lead to 3-0 at the 8:39 mark of the frame after taking a feed from Schultz, who notched his second assist of the contest.

Bailey Krawczyk ’24 capped the scoring blitz for the Purple & Gold with a power play tally at the 13:43 mark to make it 4-0. Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24 and Vizbelis would both be credited with the assists for Elmira.

Johnson & Wales ended the scoring run for the Soaring Eagles with a power play tally at the 15:01 mark of the second period. Elmira would add two more goals in the third period to extend its lead over the Wildcats as Gorman netted his second of the contest with Russo and Schultz getting credit for the assists. The Soaring Eagles capped the scoring with an empty net goal as Carter Wisely ’25 notched his first collegiate goal for Elmira with goaltender Kyle Curtin ’26 recording the assist.

In net for the Soaring Eagles, Curtin stopped 19-of-20 shots to improve to 7-5-0 on the season. The win is his second consecutive for Elmira while he also added an assist in his second straight contest for the Soaring Eagles.
