Sheffield Steelers coach Aaron Fox said he’s looking forward to bringing new defenceman Kevin Schulze into his group for the Elite Series.

The 27-year-old will come to the UK after a spell in Norway with Sparta Sarpsborg that never got off the ground due to the coronavirus lockdown.

But Fox remained impressed at what he’ll bring to the team from his previous experience, notably in the DEL with Nurnberg Ice Tigers.

“Kevin is a smooth skating offensive D-man” said Fox. “He put up really solid numbers in Nurnburg last year in the DEL and logged big minutes.

“He’s really excited to play some games as he arrived in Norway just before they locked down, so he has been practicing every day for two months without playing.

“I think Kevin will be a guy who runs our powerplay who is able to play in all situations and I’m looking forward to getting him into our group.”

Schulze has previously played for Wheeling Nailers in the ECHL for two years, featuring loans at AHL side Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before moving to Sweden, where played for Vasterviks and Leksands in the second tier.

He picked up 17 points in 47 games in Germany with Nurnburg until lockdown last year and finally signed with a team when he agreed to go to Sarpsborg at the turn of the year, but ongoing restrictions have meant he hasn’t been able to hit the ice, until now.
