Frontenacs acquire Golden Knights prospect Tuomas UronenThe Kingston Frontenacs announced a trade on the eve of the 2024 CHL Import Draft, acquiring Finnish winger Tuomas Uronen from the Ottawa 67’s on Tuesday.
Uronen, 19, was limited to just 11 games with Ottawa in 2023-24 before his season was derailed by a lower body injury. Hailing from Kerava, Finland, Uronen was a sixth round (192 overall) pick by Vegas in the 2023 NHL Draft after putting up 43 points (20-23–43) in 39 games for HIFK of Finland’s top junior circuit. He was Ottawa’s first round (57th overall) pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft.
“We’re excited to add Tuomas to our organization.” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. “As an NHL drafted prospect, he has strong talent that we can add into our lineup. He has great offensive instincts and an elite shot. He should fit nicely into our system.
The Frontenacs dealt a fourth round pick (Niagara’s) in 2025 along with a conditional seventh round pick (Sarnia’s) in 2027 to Ottawa to complete the deal.
“Tuomas is away at Golden Knights’ development camp right now.” GM Cooper continued. “He has rehabbed and recovered very well from his injury last season and should be ready to go for our camp in late August. He’s also represented Finland internationally, so he brings a lot of valuable experience to our team.”
The Frontenacs ended the 2023-24 season with 2004-born forward Linus Hemstrom and late 2005-born defenceman Jakub Chromiak occupying their two import roster spots. Kingston is slated to pick 24th overall in Wednesday’s CHL Import Draft. Ottawa owns the 33rd overall pick.
